In the waning days of December 2021 I visited several beaches along the Lake Michigan shoreline, and while looking for interesting things to collect I began to gather up busted-up pieces of colorful plastic, not really knowing what might become of them but seeing potential. The thick, twisty piece of black rubber - which looked like a Dr. Seussian tree trunk - helped me tie it together
