In Chicago, when winter gives way to spring, the snow fence that lines the lakefront - primarily to keep snow banks from drifting onto Lake Shore Drive - has taken a real beating, often lying in tatters that only get discovered when the snow melts. It was just a few years ago that I began to collect the busted-up pieces, attracted primarily by the different tones of brown, gray, beige and brick-red, the colors of the earth. When I decided to compose something with the hundreds of little pieces, I settled on this pseudo sun theme, and subsequently submitted it to the CBS Sunday Morning News program, who'll be utilizing it in one of their weekly sunshine features this spring or summer. The title comes from the first line of a classic Roy Ayers record called, "Everybody Loves the Sunshine."
