This was a commission by a friend's wife who wanted something special for his birthday present. She casually mentioned the word "baseball" to me on a phone call and things quickly fell into place from there. It was springtime when I conjured this up and I thought about Chicago baseball and Wrigley Field and the ivy-covered walls. I often find fake plastic leaves on the beach and I'm puzzled by their presence. I cannot think of a reasonable scenario why folks would bring these to the beach and then discard them. They came in handy for this image and seemed like a natural contrast to the baseball, which I also found on the beach. This is one of my favorite pieces from the summer of 2021.
